World's First RFID Technology for Measuring the Distance between UHF-band Antenna and IC Tags, courtesy OMRON

Filed in archive Companies on September 21, 2007

OMRON seems to have found a solution for factory floor problems faced in manufacturing units which affects the performance of UHF-band RFID systems and has been acting as a roadblock in its widespread industry adoption. Up till now problems were being encountered with respect to unwanted reading of tags and discrimination between tags on goods moving on multiple conveyor belts.

As a part of the solution the company claims to have developed world's first technology which can measure distance between EPC-compliant RFID tags and antennas depending upon delay time calculation. The calculations are made on the basis of delay time of electromagnetic waves used for communicating between antennas and IC tag which ensures precise distance calculation for UHF-band EPC-compliant tags.

If your company has been implementing UHF-band RFID systems you might have encountered problem with respect unwanted reading of tags which leads to incorrect data collection but hopefully now it will become history with this technology from OMRON
