Near Field Communication
by gautam on January 16, 2007

A short-range wireless technology, Near Field Communication or NFC is meant for use with cell phones. This technology is quite similar to RFID but what sets them apart is the read range.
As far as the NFC capabilities are concerned this phone is equipped for making mobile payments, getting tickets and local sharing. It is a fully loaded clamshell cell phone which has all the regular functions such as FM radio, music player, microSD card slot, 1.3 megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom besides the NFC capabilities. Get ready to experience the power of NFC with Nokia 6131 NFC phone in the first quarter of this year carrying a price tag of $340.
So are you people ready for a truly interactive experience?

This is great to see Nokia pushing the innovation curve a bit. Any idea if they are partnering with other hardware, software, or payments vendors here or doing it all themselves?

If you're interested in developing applications for this phone, Nokia has already released an SDK for it.

Tickets on the phone is by far the best thing you can use your cell for.
