In order to deal with this issue American Barcode and RFID has come up with Tetragate platform which combines RFID ID cards with facial recognition software and video cameras. Now companies would be able to scan hundreds of people entering their premises with ease. These RFID ID cards are equipped with UHF RFID inlays as compared to LF or HF inlays used in key cards and have a pretty good read range of 25 feet and in the event some one opens the door for the employee to get in without punching their key card to the access control reader, the Tetragate reader would sense the UHF Tetragate reader card from within a purse or a bag. In order to make it foolproof a networked digital facial recognition camera is used for authenticating every person entering the premises. With this images can be captured from a distance of forty to sixty feet from the entrance and thousands of faces can be captured per second and compared with the database of employees. So in case an unauthorized person is detected in the premises an e-mail is shot off to the security incharge along with the image of the person and this would make it easier for figuring out the questionable person.
With this you could not only track people entering your premises but also keep a tab on the assets of your company being carried by your employees. As of now the system has been tested in laboratory conditions but the company is in talks with a number of interested parties in this regard. The total package has a starting price of $25,000.
If it turns out to be a success it would certainly strengthen the security of the companies and ease pressure on the security personnel.

Combining several insecure technologies does not make a secure. It merely increase the illusion of security. Biometrics is not certain, multi-mode biometrics is not certain - using biometrics with non-revokable keys only leads to a self-created security meltdown and further the distrust problem. This has nothing to do with strenghtening security, it is about creating risk and assumed control. Try listening to Bruce Schneier here
