This is something which could be truly beneficial in developing countries where shortage of power is a major issue but this may not be the case any more since Savi Technology is making an effort to save out on energy through solar powered rfid readers and signposts which would prevent the need for any electrical infrastructure installations.

These solar powered signposts activated RFID tags have been designed for use in defense and commercial sectors and are attached to any equipment or vehicle and then the tags transmit the position of the asset to nearest RFID readers from where the information is relayed to the Savi Site Manager software which updates the current location of the asset. As of now the system can track more than 25,000 tags per day. This would surely reduce dependence on conventional sources of power and improve adoption of the technology too.
