Sniff: RFID Toy for visually challenged kids
Filed in archive Implementation on July 2, 2007
The toy you see below is an award winning project of Sara Johansson. Dubbed as Sniff, this toy dog is aimed at visually challenged children so that their physical activity and social interaction could be increased. Whenever any RFID tagged object is brought near the nose of Sniff it gives feedback through sounds and vibrations. Kids could play with this toy alone or even with their mates too. Due to the sound produced by Sniff a number of children could be involved in playing activity and the vibration produced by the toy can deepen the tangible dimension and at the same time improve personal experience.

The toy is available in two concepts - memory game and emotion stickers. Both are scalable concepts and can be used in small and large spaces. In the memory game the sound which is hidden in the node is matched in pairs whereas in the emotion stickers the emotion sounds such as happy, sad, scared, exalted and sneeze and vibrations are combined in feedback with their different qualities. If not vision this toy would surely bring light of happiness in the lives of children who are forced to live their entire life in darkness.
