Smart Labels to Benefit Food Industry
PakSense has developed a way for people in the Food industry to monitor their produce in transit with Smart Labels. These electronic sensors are stuffed into an adhesive label about the size of a sugar packet.

These labels track the temperature every five minutes for up to four weeks and transfer the information to a computer. Sysco Food Services, Idaho has been testing this technology and has found it to be worthy.

According to terry Reynolds, Sysco, Idaho:

For us, it's important, because we want to make sure we're providing the best quality products to our customers. By maintaining and controlling the temperature of the food, you can make sure it is not going to be in jeopardy of shortening its shelf life.

The great thing about these Smart labels is that they are different from RFID as they can record not only the product serial number but can also track the temperature surrounding the product, so one can know whether the food is fresh or not. It would certainly help in saving time and money by sending back the food to the producers as soon as it is detected. Certainly these labels would go a long way in benefiting the food industry.
