Slap and Ship Still Prevails in 2005

Filed in archive Implementation by Anita Campbell on January 05, 2005

"Slap and Ship" RFID tagging -- just to meet retailer mandates -- will continue to prevail during 2005. This year is unlikely to be the big year of widespread RFID adoption. Nor will it be the year that companies substantially make-over their supply chains with the benefits of RFID.

This article at InformationWeek explains why. Gen 2 standards were just adopted late in 2004. Cost of tags, although dropping, is still too high for masslinks usage. And many companies are just starting to get their arms around RFID, and it will take time to sort through all the complexities and implement it.
