Shoppers to Be Attracted Via RFID Advertising
Filed in archive Implementation on January 4, 2007
Heard about user targeted ads? You probably must have and even seen them too while using internet. Can't recall? Let me refresh your memories, Google is known for user targeted ads and probably you might have come across one of these while perusing some articles on a website. The ads near the article would be very much related to the content that you are reading. For example if you are reading an article on cars you would come across ads related to some particular brand of car or something very much related to cars.
The same thing will be experienced by shoppers in Tokyo. While shopping around in one of the shopping centers in Tokyo you might get a message on your cell phone that there is a wonderful discount on gucci bags and if you happen to pass through the showroom the stakes might be raised in order to make it a tempting offer for you.
Called the Tokyo Ubiquitous Network Project, it would be conducted in the Ginza district in which shoppers would get to know about the various offers at the shop through a combination of RFID tags, infrared and wireless transmitters. You could get the information either through a rented reader or on your cell phone.
It's good news for both shoppers and shop owners. Shoppers will get to know the various offers without requiring to enter the shop whereas shop owners can get hold of prospective customers without having to move an inch from their seats.
Rather than wasting millions on various traditional advertising strategies this may turn out as an attractive and successful option for companies fighting to sell their products in the highly competitive market. It's good and above all quite innovative. All thanks to RFID.
