RFID will accompany you at the International CES 2008
Filed in archive Special Events on July 31, 2007
It is perhaps one of the fanciest consumer electronics trade shows which takes place every year in January in Las Vegas. I am talking about the International Consumer Electronics Show or CES where you can catch the preview of products introduced and new products which will be unveiled in the future. This trade show is visited by people and companies from more than one forty countries but this year it would be a bit different since you will not be alone at the event. While registering for the event online you will come across a small footnote which is as follows:
Please note that an RFID tag will be imbedded in your registration badge and will not contain any personal data but only an identification number. The ID number and their related data collected during CES will be used for internal purposes only by Show Management and will not be sold, bartered or traded.
If you feel you don't need it then you can check the box which states that I don't want to opt for an RFID badge. I think they might be using HF tags with small range which would only collect the necessary information but I am not too sure as to what data the show authorities will be collecting and how they will be using it. Probably they might be trying to find out which all booths interests the visitors. The swipe cards which are generally issued are swipe cards in name only since every few people at the booth swipe them and this might have prompted the show authorities to opt for RFID. I am a bit curious about them and when the badges are out I will let you know.
