RFID to Come To the Rescue of Firefighters
It's a widely accepted fact that RFID has resulted in a number of benefits across sectors. In order to increase the number of benefits that this technology can deliver, researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology have been conducting studies to find out if RFID can be deployed for tracking firefighters and other first responders inside buildings on fire. The study would also be focusing on whether this technology can be deployed for helping them navigate under hazardous conditions.

The research is attempting to place these tags in building in order to help in determining the location of a first responder and provide information to small handheld devicelinks. The device would be including and RFID reader and a navigation unit.

If this research comes out with some positive results, it is going to turn out to be low cost and reliable alternative to the GPS system used in most buildings and would go a long way in saving those precious lives.

Let's hope this study comes out with some positive results.
