An innovative wireless sensor network has been developed by Australian scientists which has been put into practice in Springbrook National Park, part of the UNESCO's World Heritage List. They have been installed for measurement of humidity, temperature, wind speed, soil moisture and light. These wireless sensors will reveal details regarding the health of the ecosystem of the Springbrook National Park. The system is expected to offer a cost effective solution for protection and restoration of environmentally sensitive forests.
As per Aila Keto, President, Australian Rainforest Conservation Society:
This is a wonderful, internationally significant project. The WSN will allow us to measure environmental conditions from climate change to soil moisture and water flow, and see the impact on plants and species. There is an abundance of life in the area, and we will be able to look at factors such as where species live, how they grow and what we can do to preserve them.
