RFID System Used In Public Library

© sylvarThe Frisco public library opens with a radio frequency identification (RFID) system. The library reopens after being closed for ten days for system upgrades involving the update of some 145,000 books, DVDs and CDs.
The new RFID system - which is said to be compatible with international standards - uses 7 Express Check terminals for fast checkout of materials to be borrowed from the library. This involves using a handheld scanner to read an item's tag upon check out. The device is much similar to those used in store cashiers making it very easy to use. Library personnel however, will be on hand to demonstrate how the device operates.
This will cut the time staff spends on checking out materials from the library. The saved time may now be used in efficiently returning materials to their proper shelves making them available again for another's use a lot faster. This system is also environment-friendly because it is paperless. Lists of borrowed items may be sent through email to the users' inbox.
The upgraded system also involves flashing of clear gates just inside library doors when books are not properly checked out and a help button near the terminals will call for further assistance from the staff. With the more efficient system, library goers won't need to line up at the Borrow and Return Desk anymore. Instead, the library is expected to have people lining up outside because they couldn't wait until the library opens at 10 a.m.
