RFID System to keep a watch on activity level of elderly

Filed in archive Implementation on October 13, 2009

They say it helps to determine the living willingness of the elderly. This is an in home RFID system which has been developed by Japan’s Tagged World Project. In this system various objects are tagged around the abode of elderly people which is read via RFID reader sewn into the slippers of the concerned person. Whenever an elderly person interacts with the tagged object, the interaction is recorded to find out whether he or she is exhibiting a healthy level of activity.

It finds out how action is being performed rather than just keeping a tab on what is being performed. This would give an idea about the general level of physical and emotional health. So at the end of the day you can check out on your loved ones without getting nosy.

With Japan having one of world’s largest elderly population and people getting busier in their lives than before this RFID system would certainly help those people who can’t devote quality time towards welfare of their elders.

Whatever may be the case but I feel that nothing can work better than being physically and emotionally closer to your loved ones. RFID system likes these are good but at the end of the day they can only give a false sense of security.
