A new report by research company frost & Sullivan says revenue in the RFID retail market totaled $400.2 million in 2004.
The study, called "World Retail RFID Markets -- A Retailer Perspective," projects that this market will reach $4.16 billion by 2011.
Here is the part that I find especially interesting. It points out how only the largest retailers can afford RFID implementations today:

The level of investments required, however, means only the biggest retailers (typically $5 billion and above in revenues) can test or deploy RFID in their stores and distribution centers at this time, the firm notes.
