RFID on all vehicles running in Philippines
Filed in archive Implementation by gautam on September 30, 2009
There have been very few instances where RFID technology has been adopted on a mass scale and one of such instances has happened in Philippines where the Philippines Land Transportation Office has given a directive that all motorists install RFID tags on their vehicles.

This seems to be part of an attempt by the government to crack down on unregistered vehicles, car theft and other auto violations. The tag will need to be affixed on the windshield of the vehicle and it will hold information regarding the driver and vehicle which would include important registration data such as model number, engine number, license plate number, year of manufacture and owner identification. Readers will be set up throughout road systems and the information will be read and relayed back to the authority for monitoring.

Motorists in Philippines have already started to raise a hue and cry claiming that the proposed system would violate their right to privacy but I feel it would do them more good than harm. At the end of the day all I can say is that humans are rigid to change by nature but they need to adapt for their own betterment.
