Readers have been emailing me for information regarding RFID for ticketing and badges at trade fairs.

If you are interested in RFID for conference and trade show badges, head over to the Zebra Technologies website where you can find a brief case study on the subject.

Canon used RFID-enabled badges for conference attendees at its Canon Expo in Paris. They set it up with only 6 weeks advance planning. Dutch conference planner Summit handled it for Canon, using Zebra printer/encoders.

Not only were they able to print badges for advance registrants, but they had printers on site and were able to handle last minute attendees also. And they were able to provide a personalized experience:
"Summit managed successfully to register 15,483 visitors. On top of that, they succeeded in performing a simple, though effective way of narrow casting. Thanks to a small adjustment in the original planned system, it was possible not only to register the visitor, but also to show a welcome message and the name of the entering visitor on a screen at the entrance. And all the people had to do was simply walk through the entrance gates which were fitted with RFID-antennas."

Go to this page and look for the November 2005 case study. Requires free registration.
