RFID Finds a Place with U.S. Army
Filed in archive Implementation on October 17, 2006
When defense forces adopt a technology and if that force is the United States Army then there is something special to it. Yes you guessed it right, I am talking about RFID. Since the year 2005, the U.S. Army has been utilizing RFID for tracking parts of their communication systems and preparation for redeployment.
With their forces fighting pitch battles in Afghanistan and Iraq and with money being spend like anything RFID would enable the U.S. Army to save around half a million dollars in the current year. As of now RFID is being used for tracking of renovation of critical defense system in Afghanistan and Iraq.
It was in 2005 that U.S. Army started a RFID pilot at Tobyhanna Army Depot in Tobyhanna. The deployment is expected to bring savings to the army to the tune of $450,000 per year.
This should certainly be an encouraging news for the RFID fraternity which now and then keeps on facing backlash from people who oppose the technology with a new reason each time.
