Soft drink manufacturers would surely thank RFID a million times since NEC and Toyo Seikan Kaisha have developed a plastic bottle cap embedded with RFID tag which would solve a lot of their worries. The success achieved by these companies would enable beverage manufacturers to get rid of the headache of changing their manufacturing equipment each time they opt for a new cap.

A built in chip and micro antenna has been fitted inside the plastic cap. It is a passive 2.45 GHz RFID tag which has a communication range of ten cm. The tags won't be affected by the moisture in the bottle. The commercial production of the caps is expected to begin in 2008. The companies are also looking forward to embed RFID tags in glass bottles, plastic containers and metal cans.

Now beverage manufacturers won't have to open their purses each time they plan to change their bottle caps and not even give a second thought while opting for minor changes such as caps. RFID has certainly made our lives a lot easier.
