RFID enters Europe with new guidelines
Filed in archive RFID Basics on March 20, 2007
It took almost a year for the guidelines for implementation of RFID in EU to take the final shape but the wait has finally yielded results. Besides the guidelines an RFID Stakeholder Group will also be created for offering assistance in development of a European policy position with regards to RFID applications. The guidelines are expected to settle the privacy concerns of the people and instill confidence in the people regarding the technology.
By 2016 it is expected that RFID would bring revenues to the tune of €7 billion to EU. With the new guidelines almost set U.S rfid companies are already eyeing the European market for generating business. Rules would be drafted in the later part of the year for amending EU e-privacy legislation to take account of RFID.
It looks as if the commission is leaving no stone unturned for ensuring that no controversy gets associated with RFID in its region and it makes a whole hearted contribution to the economy of EU. I am really impressed by the manner in which EU is handling RFID!!
