You must be aware of stretch wrap or stretch films? These are clear polyethylene film which stick to itself and are used for binding a number of cases together for creation of a large unified load. Improving upon it a company named Pliant has created an RFID enabled stretch film which not only meets the RFID mandates but also detects any tampering.

All you need to do is wrap the film around the goods and after that attach EPC Gen 2 tag connected to a battery powered circuit board and the tag can only be read when the circuit is complete. These tags can be read using a standard Gen 2 reader and in case the tags are unreadable there are chances that the pallet has been tampered with because in case the stretch film has been cut across any circuit trace, the circuit breaks and the tag becomes unreadable.

It is expected to not only counter pilferage and counterfeiting but also bring down the labor costs since no physical examination is required for detecting tampering. Overall it would improve efficiency and save on time. Seems to be a good idea!!
