RFID creates a connection with the dead
Filed in archive Implementation by gautam on August 5, 2008
The relation between the dead and RFID technology may not go down your throat but this is what the Bansho-ji Temple in Nagouya, Japan has initiated to achieve. The temple is putting to use an RFID enabled system which would enable friends and relatives to honor their loved ones who left for heavenly abode.

The RFID vault at the temple would enable a person to search for the cremated remains of their friends and relatives. When you reach the Crystal Hall on the third floor of the temple, scanning of an RFID enabled card will enable the photographs of the dead to appear on the screen and at the same time favorite music of the deceased will play in the background (this would certainly be touching). After this the wall mounted LED system will act as a guide for the visitors to reach the correct vault among the two thousand odd vaults where using the RFID card you will be able to access a particular vault.

Even though a particular spot costs a whopping $32,000 but it is expected that around one thousand people would be looking to use the facility. Certainly RFID has been able to establish a connection with the dead too!!
