RFID Can Reduce Pollution Levels
Yesterday we were talking about the implementation of RFID in the fitness world and today it's the turn of environment. With pollution levels reaching alarming levels worldwide, professors of Waseda University have evolved a system that utilizes RFID tags for efficiently delivering machinery and materials to construction sites and hence reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by trucks.

It has been generally seen that construction sites generally order material directly from the manufacturers and the material is individually delivered to each construction site. It can result in instances where many trucks go back and forth between construction sites and manufacturers with only a small amount of material on board.

Taking note of this situation, a deliver network that has a component called Logistic Service was implemented. Located between manufacturers and construction sites is the Logistic Service which allows different construction sites to share the delivery network. In order to ensure that the sharing model works well, it is pertinent to accurately track the delivery activities in real time and this where RFID tags come in the picture. A pilot test which was conducted recently confirmed that the emission levels of carbon dioxide could be reduced by 22%.

Certainly the mankind needs application like these if we want to make the world a better place to live for our future generations.
