UN contributes a lot towards relief work in case of any disaster or natural calamity but every time it cannot ensure that the relief material reaches the right people. David Nabarro who is the bird flu coordinator of UN feels that RFID could come to the aid of their organization in keeping a tab on the material so that it reaches the people who really deserve it. RFID could report the overall health of the relief material in the container for example whether the material is still edible or not or whether somebody has stolen it during the delivery process.

In this manner an eye could be kept on the relief process ensuring that billions of dollars don't go down the drain and benefit only those people who deserve it. RFID could also be used for tracking UN personnel involved in relief work so that they could be evacuated in time of emergency at the earliest. What UN needs is some very tough RFID tags which can survive in the worst of conditions. Are the rfid companies listening as this could develop into multi million dollar proposition for them?
