RFID brings joy for children at the Shedd Aquarium
Filed in archive Implementation on July 23, 2009
Shedd Aquarium at Chicago has just refurbished its oceanarium at an expense of $50 million and the special thing about it is that RFID technology too has been incorporated as a part of the revamping process. In order to make the venue attractive from the viewpoint of children, an interactive kiosk has been set up where by moving around a mechanical claw children can pick up RFID embedded stones and shells.
RFID sensor has been attached to the claw and as soon as it picks up the shells and stones it reads the tag attached to it and leads to an animated video being telecast on the kiosk screen providing information about the item being picked. Parents can take a sigh of relief as it would keep their children occupied so that they can spend their time in visiting other places at the aquarium even though toddlers may not be aware that the magic they see is the work of RFID technology.
