Patent pooling to further the cause of RFID technology

Filed in archive Companies by gautam on November 29, 2007

This was a consortium which was announced way back in August 2005 and if you are wondering what I am talking about then let me tell you I am talking about the RFID Consortium which was formed by prominent names to give a push to the technology.

With big names such as HP, Motorola coupled with five other names associated with the consortium it is looking forward to take RFID into top gear by coming up with a patent pooling which is a licensing arrangement where patent licensee has to pay only a single price for all or most of the patents required for creation of products, services and applications.

With several patents involved with this growing technology patent pooling is expected to emerge as a cost effective option for both patent holder and licensee. This will surely further the cause of RFID technology and ensure better implementation of the technology since patent costs could be controlled to quite an extent.
