Privacy and Security

Privacy International and the American Civil Liberties Union have written an open letter to the International Civil Aviation Organization ("ICAO") protesting the proposed use of biometrics and RFID for passports. The groups claim the ICAO is establishing measures which will result in an international identification database of passport holders.
At the heart of the concerns are the use of biometrics (iris identification, fingerprints, facial mapping) in conjunction with RFID-tagged passports, which, the open letter claims, could be read through a purse or wallet by just about anyone with a reader.
