New Gen 2 Chips From Impinj Stable
Realizing the importance of RFID tags which can carry more user programmable data as compared to 96 bit EPC and which could be used for product authentication, Impinj has come with Monaco/64 and Monza/ID chips. These two chips are the slight variations of the original Monza.

The first of them, the Monaco/64 is meant for applications in which users are required to add rewritable to a tag. The 64 bits memory of the chip can be used for storing data such as product information, expiry date and lot data. This chip could be effectively used in the airlines and pharmaceutical sector. It meets the EPCglobal Gen 2 standard and is password protected so it cannot be altered by anyone.

The other chip, Monza/ID chip possess same memory as that of Monaco/64 and is being used to encode a unique, unalterable identifier programmed by Impinj when the chip is produced. The ID would be used for authenticating the asset or product to which the finished tag is attached.

With RFID deployments getting sophisticated the need for more memory is going to crop up. Take the case of computers, did we ever give a thought to the fact that we would require more than 32 MB hard drive.
