Muchip RFID Tag Reader for Mobile Phones from Hitachi & KDDI
Filed in archive Tags and Readers on September 28, 2006
Hitachi and KDDI have come together to launch the muchip Reader with world's smallest sized muchip RFID tag to be used in Bluetooth enabled cell phones. Just hold your cell phone near it and the reader reads the information which is then sent off to the cell phone by making use of bluetooth technology. Each tag can hold up to 38 digits along with a tracking system which not only records the information but also indicates the source of information. Use it anywhere as it is compact in size and can also be used in places which do not have a LAN network infrastructure.
The Muchip reader has been priced at 84,000 yen and the production would start from 2nd October.

According to Nikkei Shimbun (Oct 4), nineteen Asian countries including Japan, China, Korea, Mongol, and Vietnam started discussing RFID standards for data inputs and communication. It seems that these will be a key discussion topic at Asian Forum for Information Technology

Yes, I heard that Nokia is attempting to push RFID into the mainstream with its launch of a kit that adds the technology to its mobile phones.I looks like combining the Nokia Mobile RFID Kit with a standard handset has created the first GSM phone product with RFID reading capabilities.

Yeah, they try to put many many things into one mobile phone. But the screen won't get any bigger cause people want small phones. You have to carry it around and so on. Or you could better buy a laptop, and it's the same thing, or better.

I have seen these at trade shows in Australia, as you walk by them it gives you brief informatin regarding that particular company on your mobile via Bluetooth.
It's a great marketing tool and shows it's potential of going virtual like a virtual office.
