Mother with kids can now shop in peace with KidStopper
Filed in archive Retail on January 21, 2009

Mother who goes out shopping with her kids knows how difficult the situation can become as it's not easy to handle kids and Shop Around at the same time. Safety of kids is always a priority for their mothers and as a result they are not able to enjoy their outings.
Westfield Centre in West London seems to have realized this and now they are offering electronic tags for their children which need to be attached to the wrist to send a warning signal to the parents. So in case your child comes anywhere within ten yards of the exit an alert would be immediately sounded. With the shopping center equal to the size of thirty football pitches it would certainly become difficult for any parent to keep an eye on their accompanying kids and I feel this KidStopper would certainly leave the parents relieved and give them their share of peace of mind. Also with recession looming large it could work as a means of attracting shoppers who seemed to have almost vanished since the economic crisis.

What an absolute abuse of technology! The is a blatant attempt at moving the onus of responsibility off parents who are not responsible enough themselves in the first place. I forsee a list of legal cases of so called parents claiming that it was an RFID devices fault that their child was kidnapped/killed/died/lost ... There should be laws preventing parents like this from having children. The person who worded the article was not much better.

Thats a good idea. But how will the mother know that it his her son/daughter who is near the exit gate. N number of kids' tags might be detected???!!!

As each piece of apparel¡Xa Hugo Boss jacket or coat, for instance¡Xreaches the window, the automated rack stops and turns that item around 180 degrees, and a nearby RFID interrogator reads the passive high-frequency (HF) tag attached to the garment.
