Laboratories to become error free zones with RFID rat tracking system

Filed in archive Companies on December 7, 2007

A number of rats find their way into laboratories for research purposes but it becomes a humongous task to identify and track these little creatures and ensure that they are not accidentally put to use for some other purpose than intended for. Here is an RFID system from Dynasys which will take care of all the problems stated above. The best thing about the system is that the RFID tags have to be attached to the cages and not the animal for tracking them hence making it a simpler system to use. For this system Gen2 UHF tags are being used which offer better range, speed and anti collision capabilities for tracking numerous cages within seconds. Before the system got the nod the company had to demonstrate that the RFID tags and readers being put to use in the laboratories would not cast any ill effect on the health or behavior of the animal.

Research laboratories are definitely going to gain on two grounds with this system as not only will it put an end to errors but even save out on time. So probably the next time laboratories are questioned about errors at their facility they would be able to answer it with utmost confidence!!
