Japan Pushing to Lower Tag Price

Hitachi has been awarded a JPY1.8bn (US$16 M) Grant
over the next two years to produce an RFID-inspired chip and system which will retail for less than 4 cents a piece. Currently RFID tags sell for about 45 cents, making them still too expensive for many applications. Some of Japan's biggest RFID players will be
working with Hitachi to push the prices down, including Dai Nippon Printing, Toppan Printing, and NEC.
