Interesting RFID Factoid

Filed in archive Privacy and Security , RFID Basics by Anita Campbell on March 24, 2004

John Soat, Senior Executive Editor of InformationWeek, today shared this factoid assembled by the staff at InformationWeek:
"If Wal-Mart were to put RFID tags on every item in every store and collect all the data, it would amount to 7,690,000 terabytes of data each day."

Soat made the comment today during a technology trends forum I attended in Cleveland, Ohiolinks, USA.

He also predicted that RFID will be a powerful force that shapes the future of information technology over the next 10 years. And he believes that an entire new industry will develop to help individuals manage privacy surrounding RFID data.
