Industry's First AirLocation Tag from Hitachi
Filed in archive Tags and Readers on October 3, 2006
Hitachi has unveiled industry's first AirLocation II Tag which is a Wi-Fi active RFID tag. The new tag enables wireless LAN position detection and management of people who enter and leave buildings and it also has an emergency message function. It would be possible to track the position of the people inside the building with this tag.
During emergency situation the emergency message function enables users to shoot off a message to the control center which informs disaster relief officials regarding their position. It would be available at a price of $179.
This would be ensuring precise management of people. Next time reach your office on time as your boss is watching. Jokes apart this could serve as an important tool for helping people who might have been caught in some terrorist attack in case of some natural calamity. There have been instances where precious lives could not be saved as people could not be tracked. Keep it close to you as you never know when it could come to your rescue.

"World's first" is a very ridiculous statement, unless you are mere refering to product name. Aeroscout, PanGo, and Ekahau have had 802.11 "tags" for a couple years. One would have to be oblivious not to be aware of these other companies. Sounds like cheerleading. Almost as bad as the Mu chip reader in the previous post where there was aboslutely no criticism of a product of very minor interest/ funtionality. Not sure who your target audience is, but it would seem it is the complete laymen (not industry veterans)

This is a fascinating stuff and holds more promise in material tracking solutions within the campus. Can some one throw more light on the hardware required or provide information on the toplogy of the solutions
