HP Comes Up With Grain Size Wireless Data Chip

or HP as we fondly call it has come up with a new chip which would put the existing RFID chip to shame in comparison. Now you all must be wondering what made me say such a thing. The chip is equivalent to a size of grain and measures two to four mm square. I was just wondering whether a grain of rice would be bigger as compared to this chip. As of now the protype can hold 512 KB of data which is expected to rise in the future. One could communicate with the chip wirelessly and is improved speedwise and the maximum data transfer rate with RFID is 848 kilobits per sec and has a transfer speed of up to ten megabits per second which is ten times faster than Bluetooth wireless technology. As of now it would take around two years to make it commercially viable.
Dubbed as the Memory Spot, the chip can store up to hundred pages of text and it could be used in a variety of commercial and consumer applications. The company has said that the chip could be embedded in paper or stuck to surfaces and might be sold as self adhesive dots. The chip consists of a capacity array, targeted microprocessor, loop antenna, memory driver and memory which have been fabricated as one piece and helps in cutting production costs.
The company expects the technology to be incorporated in a variety of electronics such as cell phones and printers which can transfer data to and from the chips when passed over one another.
