You must have heard that small is beautiful but have you heard that small can become almost invisible too. Hitachi which previously held the record for the world's smallest RFID chip has broken its own record and has come up with yet another minuscule RFID chip which measures just .15 mm x 0.15 mm x 0.0075 mm. Carrying the nickname Dust or Powder these chips have a 128 bit ROM and can easily store a 38 digit number. The company used the Silicon-on-Insulator process for minimizing the distance between each circuit element and insulation layer and monocrystalline silicon layer was formed upon the silicon base substrate. This powder can be used in a number of applications ranging from logistics to military to consumer electronics.




You might think that the limit has been reached for bringing down the size of the RFID tag but this is just the beginning for the company as it plans to develop even smaller RFID chip by making use of 65-nanometer lithographic technology.
