Gen 2 Could Take A While

Welcome back from your holiday breaks, and welcome to the New Year.

Even though the Gen 2 standard has been adopted, it could be 3 - 18 months before companies start deploying the new standard.

Texas Instruments says it will have some Gen 2 chips available as early as the first quarter of 2005.

But other companies are not as optimistic. Alien Technology expects to see companies still using Gen 1 technology until all the issues are shaken out -- that could take 18 months.
