Cricket World Cup 2007 gets RFID security blanket
Filed in archive Special Events on March 28, 2007
Since I have roots to a cricket crazy country so I thought a post on one of the world's biggest extravaganza - Cricket World Cup 2007 was a must even though some of the best sides in this game have already bid adieu in the initial stages but I am happy to know that RFID is out there to complement this game and that probably caught my attention. One more thing we all were even shocked by the untimely death of Bob Woolmer who was the coach of Pakistan Cricket Team and this had raised question regarding the security of the visiting teams. In order to strengthen the security in West Indies, RFID system is being installed at the Port of Bridgetown in Barbados. Axcess International's ActiveTag technology powered system along with wireless sensors and underwater cameras will be keeping a tab on the people and vehicles around the port.
With this system, information regarding people entering the ports and the area they travel within the gates would be captured and all the monitoring activity will be transmitted to the security personnel via various electronic means. With lots of people entering the country to watch the game of cricket the need arose to strengthen the security in and around the port. Taxis and other vehicles have been attached with RFID tags and even personnel's entering the port area are required to wear RFID batches. With RFID adoring a number of events across the world, it seems that the day is not far away when its popularity would spread like wild fire.
