China to Fight Bird Flu with RFID
Filed in archive Healthcare on March 24, 2006
RFID which is already going through a virus scare would now be used in China for fighting bird flu virus. Smart-tek has entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with SES Investment for marketing and distributing its RFID tracking technology for tracking and monitoring the birds for the possible spread of the H5N1 Avian influenza in China.
Asia has been witnessing falsification of records by bird owners in order to prevent culling of their stocks as they do not receive enough compensation for their birds which are culled.
I believe that it is one of the best possible use to which this technology is being put use to. Already bird flu has severely dented the poultry industry and has resulted in severe financial losses. If RFID can help in controlling bird flu, there is nothing else that one can ask for as experts have warned that there are possible chances of the virus spreading to the human population. I hope that the virus is quickly brought under control as I am also missing my daily dose of chicken.

We are developing systems to transmit the information readed from the RFID microchip to a specially designed DB that will keep track of those readings and make an automatic alarm whe it happens. Everything can be done remotely.
