China Post Selects RFID for Tracking Mailbags
Symbol Technologies has got the nod of China Post to supply RFID technology for tracking express mail bags within the postal district of Shanghai. It has been successfully deployed in the Shanghai Post Express Mail Service operations and is a part of the on going national pilot project which has been co-sponsored by China's ministry of science and technology in order to validate the benefits of RFID within China's Post's operations.

RFID enables the postal department to automatically track the status of mail bags en route from individual post offices to various collection and sortation centers in Shanghai. Earlier mail bags were tracked using bar coded tags which required manual intervention. Using RFID the postal department would be able to reduce the time in processing mail bags as they could be tracked automatically while moving through various points in their processing cycle.

It is expected that the deployment would have significant operational improvements and cost savings for China Post when the RFID solution is implemented across all provinces in China.
