One hindrance towards the adoption of RFID technology has been the high costs associated with it which has not made it as popular as barcodes but I feel that within the next few years we should expect the technology within the reach of a lot many people and enterprises than before.
Now Fraunhofer Institute of Integrated Systems and Device Technology Germany researchers have developed a cost effective system for printing electronic circuits which can be compared to the process deployed in case of ink jet printers. It would be printed from inorganic materials using ink jet which is quite similar to what is used in case of office printers. The ink is created from nanoparticles and stabilizer is added so that it leads to easy processing of particles.
It could be used effectively in case of low priced goods for performing simple functions such as temperature monitoring etc. So get ready for the low cost technology revolution!!
