For anyone interested in patents, there is a service that will notify you of new patent applications for RFID tags and readers.

It's called Centredoc.

Centredoc covers patent applications of the following offices:

  • US: U.S. Patent Office (USPTO)

  • EP: European Patent Office (EPO)

  • WO: World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO)

David Borel of Centredoc tells me that as of this writing it requires an annual subscription of 1,200 Euros. You can, however, request a free trial on the website.

On a different but related note for all you patent junkies: the rethink(ip) blog has created RSS feeds for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office news page. They also include links to feedslinks for the WIPO and EPO news pages. Note: the RSS feeds will only provide news and administrative notices, and not specific information about individual patent filings, as Centredoc does.
