Cell phones go RFID crazy

Take the case of South Korea which is witnessing an increasing trend of cell phone straps being used for electronic payment. People have been using T-Money services for paying for their purchases and public transport. Most of the mobile phones available in the country have some means for attaching straps which could either be in the form of small handles or holes in the cover. In Hong Kong too we can witness the integration of cell phones and RFID using Octopus card.

Octopus Xpress on covers can convert Nokia 3310 and 3330 handsets into payment devices and it is available without any requirement for initial deposit and only when a person refills the account that one can make payment using their phones. Another project on RFID and cell phones is Shifd where RFID is being attached to cell phones for enjoying web browsing on your mobile phones. Here data is transferred using SMS and the combination of tag and reader is used for detecting the presence of cell phones and computer. Using it one can access web content even when one is away from their computer. I think it's just the beginning and we would see this technology making waves across the globe.
