Bixi: RFID Bike Sharing Program Reaches Montreal
Filed in archive Implementation on May 19, 2009

I have earlier talked about the RFID bike sharing programs, check here and here. It seems the craze for RFID bike sharing programs has started to spread its wings and now we have another of it in the city of Montreal.
The program has been dubbed as Bixi (the name resembles more of a biscuit brand). Here the bike docks depend on wireless RFID Technology and informs of any error whereas the touch screen pay station derives power from solar energy.
The bikes have an old school design and come fitted with LED head and taillights. All you need to do is swipe your card at any of the pay stations, walk away with the bike and then when you are done return it at any of 300 bike stations.
So if you live in Montreal and want to stay fit for a longer time then you can join the Bixi Bike Sharing Program by opting for an annual membership of $75 or daily expense of $5 or even opt for per hour pricing wherein the first half hour is offered free. This program is already spreading at a fast pace with 3000 bikes expected at 300 hubs in the city by 7th of June.
Simple, easy and tempting to chuck your fossil dependant vehicles for this cheap, environment friendly, technologically advanced and healthier option.
