Battle Royal Brewing Over Patents

Intermec has sued Matrics claiming infringement in several of its patents.
"Intermec believes has infringed on RFID patents that cover readers, chips, RFID tag operation and the association of tags with wireless memory devices."
Expect this lawsuit to be the start of other patent disputes. With interest in the marketplace heating up, there's now more at stake.

Happily most of the patent issues are at the tag hardware level and not on the middleware and software side. The middleware and software will work regardless of whether or not the EPC comes from an RFID tag or a barcode.
