Are companies giving up on RFID and going back to bar codes?

No. RFID is an exciting technology which bar codes cannot fully replicate.

Still, the intelligence I have been getting from numerous sources, including commentary from such sources as IDTechEx and guest commentary by Chris Kapsambelis of Barcode Data Systems, suggests companies have come to realize there may be a larger role for barcodes to co-exist with RFID for the foreseeable future.

Mark Roberti, Editor of RFID Journal, the foremost media publicationlinks about RFID, addresses the resurgence of interest in bar codes in his most recent opinion column. As he notes, "While people may be rethinking RFID deployment strategies, that doesn't mean RFID is marching backwards."
